About Us
Aims
The Faraday Centre is dedicated to:-
1. Providing a resource for educators to use to teach our children about the technology of everyday items.
2. The preservation and demonstration of regional technology of historical significance.
Location
The centre is located in Faraday Street, between Thackeray and Carlyle Streets in Napier, New Zealand. See Location Map.
Administration
The Faraday Centre is owned by the Hawke’s Bay Cultural Trust and is operated as part of the Hawke’s Bay Museum and Art Gallery, Marine Parade, Napier.
Funding
We rely entirely on income from door charges, donations and the sponsorship of projects. A major sponsor for projects has been and continues to be the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council
Educators
LEOTC (Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom, a project of the Ministry of Education) currently funds the Hawke’s Bay Museum & Art Gallery to provide educators to help plan and deliver our workshop programs for school classes.
Volunteers
Almost all the work at the centre is done by an enthusiastic team of volunteers, most of who are retired tradesmen, including some who have been with us for over 25 years. The work on maintenance and restoration of the collection is never ending and we are always on the lookout for helpers. If you would like to help Contact Us or call at the centre any time we are open when there’s always a team at work on our many projects.
Museums On Line
We are listed at the NZ Museums website along with most of the other museums in New Zealand.
